Quainton remain ahead in the race for the Title of the Premier Division with a tight victory at Sports B. Russell Fincher kept Quainton at the top with three wins but Tim Cheek ensured his team stay second with a fine double. By taking points off Quainton, the Sports team have done their A Team a favour, because they are now in third spot just two points behind Quainton courtesy of a 9 – 1 win against Tring A. Gerry Saunders and Graham Smith stopped the rot for Tring by winning the doubles in 5 sets. Sports also notched up a 7 – 3 defeat of Haddenham A for whom Andy Misseldine won two legs. Steve Buck won three for Sports, with Chris Hansell claiming two wins.
Bucks CC A are enjoying a resurgence this season but they could only close out 6 – 4 winners against their B Team. Andy Cullen managed two wins for the B Team but the A Team's Wilf Crompton maintained his purple patch with a maximum, pushing his success ratio to 83%. By contrast, the B Team are struggling to keep in touch at the bottom of the Division. They lost another match to Sports B for whom Tim Cheek and Andrew Eggleton were dominant. Nick Cresswell also picked up one game with a win over Mick Jeffries.
Bellingdon were without their form man, Stuart Brown, when they welcomed Quainton B last week, subsequently losing 7 – 3. Finding himself two sets down, David attacked every ball to win the third 24 – 22 and then eased to victory in the last two sets.
Elmhurst have reasserted themselves as potential champions of Division One leading by 3 points from Haddenham C following a win at Tring E. Bradley Willis continued his good form from the previous week to take three for Elmhurst, but Dave Royle recovered some pride for Tring by winning two games including a five set defeat of top player Brian McMullen. Haddenham C are still in the mix for the Title but could only grind out a draw with fourth placed Quainton C with 6 games going to 5 sets. Man of this match was unbeaten Lee Mallick who is the top Division One player with a success rate of 96%.
Elsewhere Nobby Tennison helped his Sports D Team achieve a draw with a strong maximum against Bucks CC E for whom Ken Hill notched up two good wins. Mark Luscombe made another unbeaten foray into Division One for Tring D at Ridgeway. Team mate Steve Tipton had a creditable win against Brian Redrup, 12 -10 in the fifth set. Nobody was completely victorious in the 6 – 4 win that Tring C inflicted on third placed Haddenham D. Simon Witney for Haddenham came closest but lost 9 -11 in the fifth set to David Mosley. Mosley and Witney both had doubles along with Tring's Gordon Whitehead and Roger Hopkins.
Unbeaten Division Two player, Mark Luscombe, kept his Tring F Team in touch with the leaders with another maximum in the drawn match at second placed Bucks CC F. The Bucks D Team, however, is keeping its nose in front by 3 points following defeats of Brill B, 9 – 1, and Quainton D, 8 – 2.
Shock of the week in division two was the 10 - 0 home defeat of Bucks CC G by Sports H which restored Sports to third spot. With the signing of former stalwart Pete Edwards, Sports now look strong enough to challenge the Bucks CC D and F teams for the leadership.

It is not often that a birthday is celebrated at a table tennis match. The recent match at Tring between the F team and visiting Bucks CC G saw three generations of the home side's Luscombe family celebrating Rosemary's 10th birthday with an iced cake for the interval refreshments. It would be nice to say that with dad Mark and grandad Fred in support, Rosemary's team were successful, but Bucks CC sneaked a 6 - 4 win.
In support of Aylesbury Vale District Council's aim to bring sport to everyone The Elmhurst Community Centre recently held an open evening for anyone interested in Table Tennis.
