AGM News

7/5/09

The League's AGM took place on 7 th May at Foxhills Bowls Centre. Jim Styles, The Chairman reported on a successful season which saw Aylesbury Sports A crowned as Champions of the Premier Division for the third year running. Elmhurst took the Title in Division One with Bucks CC D topping a competitive Division Two. Whilst individually Chris Hansell of Sports A topped the Premier averages, Andrew Misseldine from Haddenham A won the Mens event at the Tournament for the second year in a row in an excellent 5 set battle with Chris. Top player in Division One was Bradley Willis (Elmhurst) with Mark Luscombe from Tring F taking the honours in Division Two.

Jim commented on the strong financial position brought about by the careful management of Treasurer, David Ballard. An increased attendance at Elmhurst has been one reason for the improvement in finances, a direct result of the energy and enthusiasm from Nick Cresswell with strong support from Nobby Tennison. The season was rounded off by an excellent tournament on 4 April at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, a venue that proved to be more adaptable and seemed to attract a larger ensemble of players.

The usual formalities were completed with the present officers remaining in place with the addition of John Richardson to the committee. One rule amendment was voted in, that being Rule 8.13 relating to postponement of scheduled matches. Part c which states that The Divisional Match Secretary can only authorise postponement of a scheduled match if there is mutual agreement of the team captains involved now has a rider attached “provided this agreement is reached and notified to the Match Secretary at least 14 days prior to the scheduled fixture”.

In any other business, arrangements were confirmed for the upcoming Hard Bat tournament on 5 June and the Summer League which starts on 11 May, both events at Elmhurst community Centre.

The League's President, Bob Sargeant, presented trophies as follows.

Premier Division Champions: Sports A – Nick Hansell, Mike Atkinson, Chris Hansell, Dave Wackrill

Runners Up: Bierton – Neil Massa, Michael Wilkins, Steve Allen, Dwayne Brooks, Alex Pratt.

Division One Champions: Elmhurst – Bradley Willis, Brian McMullan, Paul Willis, Pete Hammond

Runners Up: Ridgeway – Brian Redrup, Eric Dutton, Jeff Amor, Bob Croucher

Division Two Champions: Bucks CC D – Martin Gillett, Steve Rycraft, Rod Payne, Andrew Willard

Runners Up: Bucks CC F – Iain Willcocks, Paul O'Connell, John Roper, Paul Hartnell

Finally, Bob presented two awards under The Cyril Thorne Memorial Trophy for exceptional performances by a player and an administrator. It was unanimously agreed that the Player's award be made to Andrew Misseldine , the Mens' individual tournament winner for the last two years as well as this year's Veterans champion. The award for Administrator was presented to David Ballard for his exceptional work as Treasurer and also for being Annual Tournament Organiser each year as well as organising Riddell Trophy, Junior and Hard Bat Tournaments.

SUMMER COMPETITION starts 11/5/09 see Summer League

report 11/6/09

With Haddenham Hardbats having a bye this week, The Bicester outfit of Arun Jogi, Pete Hargreaves and Andy Crofts maintained top spot in the Monday group, courtesy of reserves Jack Baker and Omar Echcharki. Both teenagers played like veterans to beat off the challenge of Bill Higgins and Les Ferguy from Tring A. Jack was unbeaten, a commendable effort, whilst Omar didn't quite manage to stifle Bill, losing 30-31,30-31. But, importantly, the two lads took the deciding doubles, so well done to them.

Clive Westbury had the help of Bicester's Stan Harding to keep his team in second place with a 4 – 1 defeat of Terry Holland and James Gibson, although James gained a stunning victory, 31-18,31-18 against Clive. Ken Hill and David Bradbury, The Old Timers, are keeping in touch in fourth spot after a 4 – 1 win against Red Star.

Wednesday's group sees a tie at the top between Haddenham Hawkes and Ken & Rob on 15 points with Titanics having zoomed into third spot with a 5 – 0 win against Tring Cockerels. The result was a bit harsh on Tring as 4 of the games went to three sets with some close finishes. Bill McCafferty for Titanics played especially well.

Haddenham Hawkes were restricted to a 3 – 2 win by Iceberg's Anna Wharrier and Colin Sturges. The two completed a fine doubles win in two sets against Chris Hawkes and Russell Fincher. Meanwhile Rob Perry was unbeaten in his team's 2 – 3 loss to Haddenham Hobnobs.

All is finely balanced at the almost halfway stage.

PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL BE NO REPORT FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS, DUE TO HOLIDAY.

report 4/6/09

The Bicester outfit, Wot no Sohail, make it Pete, Andy or Yogi then, is still riding high in the Monday group, having overcome the Old Timers, David Bradbury and Pete Eggleton 4 – 1. It could have been much closer as three of the games went to three sets and Andy Crofts was made to struggle against David. An introduction this week to one of our youngsters, Ben Elliott, saw him help Clive Westbury to a 5 – 0 defeat of the Blazing Paddles of Lee Mallick and Roger Mott. Well done Ben.

Ken Walton & Rob Perry top the Wednesday group after defeating Old Fogeys, David Bradbury and Pete Eggleton, 5 – 0. David & Pete must have been still recovering from Monday! But well done to Ken in fighting his way past Pete. Second in this group is Haddenham Hawkes, whose players Chris Hawkes and Jon Abungan are also registered for Haddenham Hardbats in the Monday group. You guys will have to decide who is your prime team if you are both in with a shout at semi final stage. Remember also that the rules state that only players who have played more than two matches in their qualifying group may play in the semi final stage. Others who turn out as reserves for teams in the opposing groups have a maximum of three appearances.

report 27/5/09

After two weeks of the Summer Competition early indications are that the Haddenham Hardbats will contest the Monday top spot but the Bicester team, Wot no S, is leading the way with 9 points. The key players so far are Andy Crofts for Bicester and Jon Abungan for the Hardbats, both currently unbeaten. It is early days and there will be some stiff opposition over the coming weeks. Well done to Joyce Witney, Joyce and Clive, for using her handicap well in overcoming Mark Scott, Hardbats, in week one and James Gibson,TJP, for beating Pete Hargreaves, Wot No S, in three hard fought sets in week two. Watch out for The Old Timers who could upset everybody.

David Bradbury's other team, Old Fogeys, is in the hunt for the Wednesday Title along with current leaders, Ken & Rob, and the suggested favourites, Haddenham Hawkes. Last season's winners, Quainton Rebels have made their usual slow start, but should not be discounted. Outstanding players from this section are David Bradbury and Paul O'Connell from Old Fogeys, and Chris Hawkes. Well done to Pete Eggleton, standing in for Ken Walton and beating Gerry Saunders of Iceberg. This group should beware of Haddenham Hobnobs who have 4 points from just the one match.

TITLES DECIDED

With just one result from Division Two outstanding the Titles, promotion and relegation places are now decided in the Aylesbury and District Table Tennis League.

Sports A have long been the Champions in the Premier Division, winning by a massive 51 point margin from second placed Bierton. The chasm from top to bottom was evident in their last match with Bucks CC B which they won 10 – 0, with Nick Hansell, Mike Atkinson and Dave Wackrill all victorious. Well done to them and also to their top player, Chris Hansell.

Bucks CC B then played relegation compatriots, Sports C, losing a bruising encounter 8 – 2. This was not enough to save Sports who finished 10 points adrift of Rivets A above them. Tring A completed the relegation places in last place.

Final matches in Division One resulted in Elmhurst snatching the Title from Ridgeway, both having difficult encounters. Ridgeway lost out by 6 points after having to play the tricky Tring C twice, dropping 9 points in the process. Elmhurst dropped 5 points against third placed Sports D but, buoyed by a sparkling Bradley Willis performance, they picked up 7 points in their last match against Haddenham D. The three clubs filling the bottom spots are Bucks CC E, Rivets B and Tring E, although Bucks finished on the same number of points as Risborough B, who are better placed by virtue of winning more matches. Top player was Tring D's Mark Luscombe who dropped just one game in his last match against club compatriot, David Mosley.

Division Two concluded a long season in two dramatic days this week. On Monday Bucks CC D faced Brill hoping for a repeat of their 10-0 victory earlier in the season as they continued their battle to overhaul leaders Bucks CC F. It was not to be as John Fitsell put in a rare appearance for Brill winning his three singles. This meant that on the next night Bucks CC D were one point down when they visited their arch rivals for a final showdown. At the halfway point in a tough match Bucks D led by three games to the two of their opponents' star Iain Willcocks. Then Paul O'Connell won for the F team against Rod Payne but Martin Gillett and Steve Rycraft won for the D team to give them a 5-3 advantage. In an all or nothing final singles Iain Willcocks, third in the division averages lost out 3 straight to Rycraft which clinched the title for the D team. A win in the doubles gave Bucks CC D the result 7 -3, the title by 3 points and an unbeaten record for the season. Sports H have taken the third promotion spot 24 points ahead of their E Team.

TITLES STILL TO BE DECIDED

17/4/09

Sports A are the Premier Division champions for 2009 in the Aylesbury and District Table Tennis League, but titles for Division One and Two have yet to be decided. Teams filling the bottom positions in the Premier this year were Sports C, Bucks CC B and Tring A. Top player was the excellent Chris Hansell of Sports A on 90%.

Looking to gain promotion to the higher division and become champions of Division One are Elmhurst and Ridgeway both on 173 points and with key matches still outstanding. Elmhurst have to play third place Sports D while Ridgway have a tricky encounter with Tring C. At the other end Tring E and Rivets B are relegated with the third place still undecided. Bucks CC E are two pints behind Risborough A with one match outstanding, all matches to be played by 27 April. Top player in Division One is Mark Luscombe of Tring D with Bradley Willis, Elmhurst, David Styles, Quainton and Lee Mallick of Haddenham close behind.

Two teams in particular have been catching up on fixtures in Division Two. Sports E v Bucks CC D staged a magnificently fought match with the latter winning 8-2 to move into second spot and maintain their slim chance of overhauling leaders Bucks CC F. Derek Marlow was in fine attacking form for the losers yet despite his many fireworks the dogged determination of Martin Gillett and Steve Rycraft eventually won out on the night.

Two nights later Sports E got their revenge on Bucks CC H inflicting Bucks first whitewash of the season. Meanwhile Bucks CC G took 25 points from three astonishing wins which jumped them up the table. Helen Riddell starred unbeaten in the 3 matches and was well supported by Pat and John Willcocks and Anna Wharrier. Next Tuesday's clash of the top two, Bucks CC F and D teams, will decide the title and is awaited with bated breath. Mark Luscombe of Tring on 100% takes the plaudits as top player in Division Two as well as Division One. David Stevens of Risborough B comes second with 94%.

SPORTS CHAMPIONS AGAIN

7/4/09

With two matches left to play, Sports A have put themselves out of reach at the top of the Aylesbury and District Table Tennis League, Premier Division. This week they completed a thorough 10 - 0 beating of their sister team, Sports B. Nick Hansell, Mike Atkinson and Chris Haines were all unbeaten. Apart from the relegation issues, the only remaining question in the Premier Division is whether Quainton B will rescue second spot in the absence of their A team. They consolidated their position with an emphatic 8 – 2 defeat at Bucks CC A for whom Wilf Crompton and Dawn Pearce took single wins. Wilf pushed Ben Davies and James McCafferty to 5 sets before being beaten.

Elsewhere Pete Tillotson bagged a maximum for Sports C in their 6 – 4 defeat by Bucks CC B. Mick Jeffries and Andy Cullen had doubles for Bucks.

Elmhurst are the new leaders in Division One following a 9 – 1 defeat of Risborough A. Matt Axford saved the whitewash whilst Elmhurst moved 4 points ahead of Ridgeway with both teams still having 3 matches to play. Sports D hold third place with Tring B still mathematically capable of overhauling them. Bucks CC C were unlucky to come up against Mark Luscombe who was guesting for Tring D once again. Barry Hammond took Mark to deuce in two sets losing 3 – 1 and Colin Tibbles did even better losing 3 – 2. Mark remains unbeaten in Division One and Two this season.

At the bottom Rivets B could only field two players against Haddenham B losing out on three valuable points. Whilst Alan Harling had a strong match winning the two points, Steve Everest was unlucky not to add to the score, losing 21 – 19 to Malcolm Burr in the fifth set.

Division Two leaders Bucks CC F had a comfortable 8-2 win over Sports F for whom Clive Westbury won the two, inflicting a rare defeat on Iain Willcocks. Sports H completed their season with a clean sweep of Tring G and are assured of the third promotion spot. Meanwhile Bucks CC D made up ground on the leaders with a 10-0 victory over Sports G. Sports E seem certain to win the race with Sports F for the fourth spot after their 8 - 2 drubbing of Tring F thanks to Derek Marlow's maximum.

QUAINTON SPLIT SPORTS

30/03/09

In the absence of their A Team, Quainton B edged into second place in the Aylesbury and District Table Tennis League with a 7 – 3 defeat of third placed Sports B. Tim Cheek stood up to the challenge of Ben Davies, Chris Walton and James McCafferty with 2 wins for Sports only losing to the undefeated Chris 13 – 11 in the fifth set. Meanwhile Sports A moved further ahead at the top beating Bucks B 8 – 2. Andy Cullen managed to defeat Mike Atkinson and teamed up with his Bucks Team mate, Mick Jeffries, to win the doubles.

Match of the week was between Bellingdon and Haddenham B, Bellingdon winning 7 – 3. It could easily have been the other way round as 7 of the games extended to 5 sets with 11 deuce sets. For Haddenham the unsuccessful Kevin Giles was unlucky to lose crucial sets at deuce to Bas Mocharaffie and Keith Slipper, whilst Bas was unbeaten but taken to 5 sets by all the Haddenham players. Elsewhere Haddenham A took an 8 – 2 win against Sports C with Arun Jogi and Darren Palmer victorious.

Ridgeway kept Title hopes alive in Division One with a 9 – 1 win at Haddenham D. Brian Redrup, Jeff Amor and Bob Croucher were in fine end of season form and only Malcolm Burr for Haddenham showed any spirit, beating Bob and only losing 12 – 10 in the fifth set to Brian. Elmhurst were pegged back by a strong Tring C winning 6 – 4 and remain 5 points behind Ridgeway with one match in hand. Dave Mosley put in a strong performance for Tring, winning two games and taking the doubles with Roger Shelton who also recorded one victory.

Sports D moved to third following a 9 – 1 defeat of Tring E who are floundering at the bottom of the Division despite the continued improvement of Nick Lane who was the sole success against Sports. Elsewhere Division Two's Mark Luscombe again played up for Tring D and continued his unbeaten run, helping them to a valuable 6 – 4 win against Rivets B. Keith Creser had a thrilling game with Mark, losing in 4 sets, but beating John Richardson and Steve Tipton. Steve Everest and Alan Harling had single successes for Rivets.

Bucks CC F tightened their grip on the Division Two Title with a 10-0 demolition of Sports G. Sports H maintained second spot with a key 7-3 win over club mates Sports E thanks to Gary Shackleton's maximum. Meanwhile Bucks CC D kept pace winning 7-3 at Tring F with a Steve Rycraft maximum. With 3 games in hand they must feel confident of finishing runners up. The ladies of Bucks CC G also have 3 games in hand and after beating Tring G 7-3 look set to head the mid table group all of whom won this week. For the teams at the wrong end of the division Charles Wallis (Brill) and Janet Franklin (Haddenham E) took the honours with two wins each.

HADDENHAM TEAMS GO FOR IT.

23/3/09

Haddenham B took on their A Team this week in the Aylesbury and District Table Tennis League, Premier Division. Both teams are well placed in the Division with the B Team having some good results following promotion last season. Against the strong opposition of Darren Palmer, Andy Missledine and Mark Penn, the B Team's Kevin Giles, Mark Scott and Chris Hawkes managed a 4 – 6 loss with Mark and Kevin achieving wins against Andy. Darren Palmer came away with a maximum, having to go to 5 sets against Kevin.

Whilst Sports A will be champions this season following the trouncing of sister team Sports C, it is good to see Quainton B still making their presence felt at the top of the Division. This week Chris Walton, Ben Davies and James McCafferty managed a draw at Bierton. Chris and Ben had doubles for Quainton with Dwayne Brookes and Mike Wilkins doing the same for Bierton.

Elmhurst gained valuable ground on Division One leaders, Ridgeway, with a 10 – 0 defeat of Quainton C and a walkover conceded following injuries to the Quainton team in another rearranged fixture. Two points now separate the teams with Elmhurst still one match in hand. Brian McMullan and Bradley Willis have been the Elmhurst stalwarts, both figuring at the top of the averages.

Behind these two there are a bunch of teams vying for third spot. Sports D and Bucks CC C are in this group and faced each other this week. Sports seemed to be in absolute control moving into a 4 – 0 lead but then conspired to extract a defeat from the jaws of victory losing the next five games to a resolute Barry Hammond, Mark Binder and Colin Tibbles. Tim Sallis and David Badham saved the day and their blushes by taking the doubles 3 – 0 for a draw.

Competing with these two for third spot is Tring B for whom David Shapter, Gerald Slade and Gerry Saunders eclipsed their E Team 8 – 2. Nick Lane was the sole success for the E team and teamed up with Billy Morgan to take the doubles in 5 sets. Elsewhere, Ken Hill and David Bradbury achieved maximums in Bucks CC E's 6 – 4 win against Tring D. Game of the evening was David's defeat of John Richardson. Having won the first two sets, David was 10-4 down in the third. But, in true Bradbury fashion he smashed his way back to take the set 15-13.

One of the features of this season's Division Two has been the strength in depth. When Sports E who have chased the leaders hard all season visited mid table Bucks CC G they must have felt confident of success. But husband and wife duo, Pat and John Willcocks, ably supported by Helen Riddell rapidly put the Bucks team in the driving seat for an 8 - 2 victory. Likewise third team Sports H entertained Tring F who lacked their number one player but helped by a Jon Abungan maximum Sports struggled to a 6 - 4 win.

Sports F made up more ground dismissing Brill 9 - 1 thanks to clean sweeps from Clive Westbury and Lianne Fisher. In the bottom half Barry Palmer and Joy Mackman also top scored as Risborough beat bottom team Tring G 7 - 3 and visitors Sports G, led by Ken Walton, edged out Quainton D 6 -4 by taking the closing doubles.

QUAINTON B FILL THE VOID

16/3/09

Following the withdrawal of Quainton A from the Aylesbury and District Table Tennis League, their B Team is keeping up the club's good name in the Premier Division. This week an 8 – 2 defeat of Bellingdon kept them in 4 th position with James McCafferty and Chris Walton taking maximums and joining up to take the doubles. Jim Styles snatched one win whilst Bellingdon's points came through Keith Slipper and Phil Tyler.

Meanwhile Sports A consolidated their top spot with a 7 - 3 win at Haddenham A. Andy Missledine appeared for Haddenham in an effort to peg back the victorious Sports Team, but Chris Hansell took two deuce games off Andy in an impressive 5 set victory. Nick Hansell won twice with a single win for Mike Atkinson. Darren Palmer won Haddenham's other point.

At the bottom of the Division Sports C and Tring A ground out a draw with Bill Higgins coming away with a maximum for Tring when he wore down Pete Tillotson's attacking play to win in 5 sets.

In Division One Tring E lost out 9 – 1 at Elmhurst with Dave Royle and Nick Lane grabbing a 5 set win in the doubles for Tring to prevent the whitewash. This win for Elmhurst puts them in third place and reduces the gap to 14 points behind top team Ridgeway with 2 matches in hand.

Ridgeway, however, continued to keep a healthy lead after their 8 – 2 win at Tring D, Brian Redrup and Jeff Amor starring. The remaining teams at the top cancelled each other out with Bucks CC C drawing at Tring B and Haddenham C losing 6 – 4 at home to two man Quainton C. The Bucks match was a mammoth struggle with 5 games going to 5 sets. Barry Hammond and Colin Tibbles had doubles for Bucks with Gerry Saunders winning twice for Tring.

Elsewhere unbeaten Matt Axford, Mark Spragg with 2 wins and Harry Cockton with one kept Risborough A ahead of the bottom teams with a 7 – 3 win at Rivets B. Steve Everest won twice for Rivets with Keith Creser gaining one win.

Highlight of the week in Division Two was the visit of second team Bucks CC D to third team Sports H. In a match where six of the games went to five legs and there were nine deuce legs, Bucks shot off to a two game lead only for Sports to win the next five but Bucks clawed back the final three games to settle for a draw. A surprise was the two defeats for Jon Abungan.

Meanwhile leaders Bucks CC F thanked their lucky stars that they found Tring F without the division's star player, Mark Luscombe, and could stroll to an 8-2 victory consolidating their position. Sports E in fourth spot could also feel happy as their 10-0 defeat of Risborough B allowed them to make up ground. In the bottom half Bucks H overcame Tring G 7-3 with maximums from David Binder and Gene Demagalski while Brill came away from Sports G with a 6 -4 triumph thanks to a Charles Wallis maximum

AYLESBURY SPORTS SURGE AHEAD

10/3/09

The Aylesbury Sports A team are powering ahead in the Aylesbury and District Table Tennis League, Premier Division. Nicky Hansell, Dave Wackrill and Chris Haines were in imperious form in their 10 – 0 win at Tring A, putting them 13 points ahead of second placed Bucks CC A. They have their C Team to thank for restricting Bucks to 4 points despite a brilliant maximum from Wilf Crompton. Pete Tillotson (2), Nick Gourley (1) and David Ballard (2) took a highly creditable win for Sports in their efforts to avoid relegation to Division One.

Mark Scott kept Haddenham B above the drop zone with another maximum in their 6 – 4 loss to Quainton B for whom Chris Walton and Ben Davies won doubles. Elsewhere Bicester club mates, Pete Hargreaves and Arun Jogi from the Oxford League, faced each other in the Rivets A/Haddenham A match which Rivets took 8 – 2. Haddenham were under strength with Yogi supporting Mark Penn. Yogi had two 5 set wins including beating Pete who managed one win in support of Dave Ralls who was unbeaten and Rodney Browne who also one once.

Ridgeway are quietly edging ahead of their rivals in Division One with only Elmhurst having a mathematical chance of overhauling them. This week Bob Croucher and Eric Dutton had fine maximums including hard 5 set defeats of top player Matt Axford. Brian Redrup won twice for Ridgeway with Matt Axford gaining one win and teaming up with Harry Cockton to win the doubles.

Elmhurst kept in touch with a strong performance winning 7 – 3 at Bucks CC C, Brian McMullan and Bradley Willis remaining unbeaten. Colin Tibbles, Barry Hammond and Mark Binder pegged the score back with single wins. With wins for Haddenham C 9 – 1 at Tring E, Tring B 9 – 1 at Bucks E and Sports D 8 – 2 at home to Tring D, the losing teams gained no ground on each other to avoid relegation. Rivets B are also in this mix losing 8 – 2 to Tring C, despite two fine victories for the irrepressible Keith Creser. Other top performances came from John Cripps who overcame David Styles in his maximum in Haddenham D's draw at Quainton C and Tim Sallis unbeaten for Sports D against Tring D. There is sympathy for Sports' Bill McCafferty who lost his second set 16 – 18 to an edge from John Richardson. Bill had one win having been out for a few weeks.

Bucks CC F have leapfrogged into the lead in Division Two over Bucks CC D who did not have a game this week. Otherwise there were no shocks or surprises. The F Team recorded two belting 9 – 1 wins with Paul O'Connell being unbeaten in both matches against Quainton D and Sports E. Sports H are keeping in touch with the top two after a 10 – 0 defeat of Risborough B. It is nice to report that June Cartwright of Sports G came away with a maximum in the battle at the bottom of the division with Haddenham E, helping her team to win 7 – 3.

AYLESBURY SPORTS CLUB ON TOP FORM

3/3/09

Teams in the Aylesbury Sports Table Tennis section are having a strong season with their A and B Teams at the top of the Premier Division of the local Aylesbury and District League. Their D Team is among the frontrunners in Division One and the H and E Teams are contesting top spots in Division Two.

The A Team consolidated top spot in The Premier Division with a 7 – 3 win against Bucks CC A which saw the return to action by Mike Atkinson following injury. Mike took one leg in support of Nick Hansell's maximum and two wins from Chris Haines. Wilf Crompton continued his strong season with two wins for Bucks. The Sports B Team beat their C Team 6 – 4 with Tim Cheek starring. Pete Tillotson showed good form with two wins for the C Team and partnered David Ballard to win the doubles. The relegation issue is between Sports C, Tring A and Bucks CC B.

Ridgeway still lead the way in Division One whilst Haddenham C and Bucks CC C cancelled each other out with a draw although Haddenham D gained ground when they beat Tring E 8 – 2. The Title would appear to be between Elmhurst and Ridgeway who both have matches in hand on their rivals. The Elmhurst team is in sixth place 14 points adrift of Ridgeway with two matches in hand.

The battle this week was to avoid relegation. The protagonists are Bucks CC E, Rivets B, Tring D and Tring E with Tring D having matches in hand. Of these, an under strength Tring D had the best result with a draw against Risborough A, John Richardson and Steve Tipton winning doubles, although neither could stop Matt Axford taking a maximum.

Individual performances of note came from Rivets' Steve Everest with a victory against David Styles of Quainton in an overall 8 – 2 loss and Billy Morgan for Tring E beating John Cripps of Haddenham D. Elsewhere Lee Mallick (Haddenham C) and Nobby Tennison (Sports D) were unbeaten.

A special feature of Division two this season has been the number of derby matches. Often these produce unexpected results. Helped by a Derek Marlow maximum and Janice Carey's shock win over Clive Westbury Sports E must have felt comfortable to be 5 -2 up on their F Team. Sports F fought back resolutely to clinch a draw with the doubles game. Meanwhile leaders Bucks CC D strode to a triumphant 10 – 0 win over Haddenham E but second team Bucks CC F met an unbeatable John Fitsell making another rare outing for Brill and struggled for their 6 - 4 win.

BRADLEY GETS REVENGE

Pupils from John Hampden, Aylesbury Grammar, Chesham High and Quarrendon took part in The Buckinghamshire Schools Table Tennis Tournament on 21 November in Cippenham. Competition throughout the various events was fierce.

Aylesbury and District's young League star, Bradley Willis representing Aylesbury Grammar School, faced Anthony Shapperton from Chesham High in the final of the Under 19 Tournament. This was a replay of the final from last year when Anthony was the winner. This time Bradley, who plays for Elmhurst in the Aylesbury League, took revenge on Anthony with a three set victory in a thrilling final. Bradley will now represent Bucks Schools in the National Schools Tournament at Doncaster next April.
