QUAINTON FIND THEIR FORM
7/2/2010
A resurgent Quainton put the brakes on the Haddenham juggernaut this week taking four points in a highly competitive match. Things started smoothly enough for Haddenham as they moved into a 2 0 lead courtesy of Andy Misseldine and Darren Palmer, but James McCafferty had other ideas successfully overcoming Mark Scott in 4 blistering sets. Dave Ralls and Chris Walton came to James' support, Chris coming back strongly after losing 11 0 in the fourth set against Andy to take the fifth 11 7 to give Quainton a chance of a draw. Andy and Mark took 5 sets to defeat James and Dave to win the match 6 4.
Sports A missed the chance to close the gap on Haddenham when they could only beat Bellingdon 6 4. Nick Hansell, Mike Atkinson and Chris Haines couldn't find an answer to the inspired match play of Lee Rogerson who managed three set victories against each of the Sports players. Stuart Brown and Keith Slipper tried to emulate Lee with Keith coming closest losing a 5 set thriller with Nick Hansell.
Elsewhere, Bierton kept in touch with a 6 4 victory at Sports B, Allan Cherry proving unbeatable. Michael Wilkins and Neil Massa provided strong support, though neither could overcome Andrew Eggleton. Tim Cheek took one leg for Sports and joined up with Andrew to take the doubles in 5 sets. Other maximums this week were Pete Tillotson for Sports C against Tring A and Chris Hawkes and Jon Abungan against bottom team Sports D.
Bucks CC B lead Division One by 5 points from Quainton B who have 2 matches in hand but this does not mean that the Title is settled yet. Bucks B were up against their D Team and managed a 6 4 win with Nick Tyler taking a maximum. In a strange coincidence Nick and Jan Crompton had played against The D team's Paul O'Connell and Iain Willcocks 4 days previously in the Wycombe League where Paul had recorded a prestigious win against Nick. It was not to be this time; Nick got his revenge in a close 4 set game with two sets going to deuce. The best game was Pat Willcocks of the D Team against Jan where they went at it from the start hitting everything. After two deuce games Jan came through in a great battle involving some fantastic hitting rallies. Iain and Paul took two sets for Bucks D with Graham Butcher and Jan winning single games for Bucks B.
Quainton showed winning style with a 9 1 win against Haddenham D, Jim and David Styles remaining unbeaten. It could so easily have been 10 0. Mick Simmonds was leading Malcolm Burr 10 8 in the fifth set, went for a glorious winning shot which didn't come off, then proceeded to lose the next three points.
Whilst Quainton look favourites for top spot, competition is still close between them, the three Bucks teams, B, D and E and Tring C who are the dark horses. They lie in fifth place 25 points behind Bucks B, but with two matches in hand. This week they eclipsed Sports E 9 1 with maximums from John Richardson and Dave Royle. Pete Edwards stemmed the flow with a win against Andy Templeton. The Bucks E Team kept in the mix for top spot with a 6 4 win against Risborough A. Ken Hill, David Shapter and David Bradbury all recorded doubles, with David Bradbury doing the double over Matt Axford. He was undeniably lucky second time around as he took the winning point in the fifth set with a judicious edge!
Finally two man Bucks CC C closed in on Sports E above them in the table with a 7 3 victory over Rivets. Paul Rickard and Steve Rycraft won strong maximums despite the efforts of Alan Harling, Kevin Rees and Steve Everest in four five set games.
Bucks CC G currently head Division Two by 2 points from Sports F who have two games in hand. Bucks G beat 4th team Brill 6 - 4 despite a doubles maximum from John Fitsell. Sports F comfortably won at Tring E despite Andrew Bramwell's maximum. Meanwhile Bucks CC F gained ground to third spot with a draw at Haddenham E and a 7 - 3 win at Sports G. Lianne Fisher won Sports three games. At the bottom Tring F won at Sports H mainly thanks to Junior Champion, Xavier Cohen's maximum and two from the exciting prospect, young Aaron Taylor.
HADDENHAM INCREASE LEAD
23/1/2010
Haddenham A are setting the Premier Division alight with their consistent performances this season. Mark Scott, Andy Misseldine and Darren Palmer had an impressive 10 0 victory at Bucks CC A last week to put them 10 points ahead of Sports A. By contrast Russell Fincher, Chris Haines and Danny Baxter could only draw at Quainton A with Danny bagging a maximum for Sports. Dave Ralls and Chris Leslie each won twice for Quainton and this result keeps them in fourth spot. Ahead of them is Bellingdon who took a 9 1 win against Sports D. The only point of interest from this match was Bellingdon's Phil Tyler having 5 deuce games on the night, three of which he won. Elsewhere, new Ridgeway arrival, Kevin Doyle, restricted Bierton to an 8 - 2 victory when he recorded stylish defeats of Allan Cherry and Neil Massa.
The gap at the top of Division One narrowed slightly last week when Bucks CC B lost 6 4 at home to Tring C. Whilst Graham Butcher and Jan Crompton took doubles for Bucks, they could not prevent a storming maximum for Tring's John Richardson. Nick Lane and Dave Royle supported John with single wins. Quainton B are in second place 12 points adrift but with two matches in hand, but they were restricted to a 6 4 win at Haddenham C. In an enjoyable match Lee Mallick, Cynthia Kunschke and Roger Mott all recorded single wins but none could prevent top of the averages, David Styles from taking a maximum. Cynthia was the closest, leading 10 6 in the second set, but losing this 14 12. It still took David 5 sets to take the game. Roger worked hard to gain a first ever victory over Jim Styles.
In other matches the evergreen David Bradbury had an emphatic maximum for Bucks CC E at Sports E restricting Pete Edwards to a three set loss. Pete had a prestigious win against David Shapter who won twice for Bucks. In the draw between Haddenham D and Bucks CC D, Haddenham's John Cripps starred with Mark Bevan winning two legs. Paul O'Connell for the Bucks Team also won twice. Matt Axford was unbeaten for Risborough A in their 7 - 3 win against Rivets. He was well supported by a double from Harry Cockton with Steve Everest also taking a double for Rivets. Paul Rickard kept his team off the bottom place with two wins at Tring B for whom David Mosley, Roger Hopkins and Roger Hopkins all took doubles.
In a week when individuals starred in some surprising Division Two results Bucks CC G visited Tring F still smarting from a hammering from Sports F and were shocked when a maximum from Tring junior Daniel Nathan limited them to a 6 - 4 win. Top team Sports F must have felt confident when their H team arrived with just two players but Susana Hansell showed them who was boss and restricted them to a 7 - 3 result. Tring F visited Bucks CC F confident in the knowledge that they had won 9 - 1 the first time around but Bucks reversed the result thanks to a strong performance from Helen Riddell who was well supported by veterans Pete Eggleton and Gerry Saunders. Charles Wallis and Steve Donleavy proved too strong for Quainton C as they helped Brill to an 8 - 2 win. Meanwhile Dave Stevens returned after a year's layoff through injury to boost Risborough B to a 7 - 3 win over Tring E.
CHERRYPICKING AT HADDENHAM
18/1/2010
The inclement weather has made life interesting at the top of the Premier Division. Haddenham A may be 13 points ahead of Sports A but they dropped 3 vital points when they entertained Bierton recently. Alan Cherry took a prestigious maximum beating Andy Misseldine 12 10 in the fifth set. Otherwise Andy and team mates Darren Palmer and Mark Scott won their remaining games and the doubles to win 7 3. Elsewhere Keith Slipper and Stuart Brown were unbeaten in keeping Bellingdon in third spot in their 8 2 defeat of Haddenham B. Pete Hargreaves and Brian McMullan took Haddenham's points with Bas Mocharaffe taking one leg for Bellingdon. Quainton A kept up the pressure in 4th place with a 10 0 win at Sports D.
Bucks CC B beat their E Team 7 3 to keep top place in Division Two, but David Bradbury did his utmost to restrict them. Personally he inflicted first time defeats on Nick Tyler and Mark Binder and was leading Graham Butcher 2 0 until he ran out of resistance. Graham was unbeaten for the B Team. The Bucks D Team had a superb battle with Haddenham C. Iain Willcocks won three for Bucks but had a titanic tussle with Lee Mallick in two deuce games before winning in 4 sets. Against Cynthia Kunschke he was 2 sets up and leading 10 6 in the third set before losing his way and letting her draw level. The fifth set was a tense affair for Cynthia and Iain recovered his cool to win. Bucks D retain 4th place with this 6 4 win but are still behind their third placed E Team.
The clash of the two leaders in Division Two produced a surprise result with away team Sports F winning easily 9 - 1. Phil Blind and Derek Marlow won all their games for Sports while Brian Whitehead beat Janice Carey to gain the sole consolation game for Bucks CC G. With Mark Luscombe off duty the Luscombe family, Fred, James and Rose, were completely outfought as Sports G coasted to a 10 - 0 victory over Tring D. In a bottom of the table clash despite Andrew Bramwell's maximum Tring E could only draw at Sports H.

Previous Reports
SNOW START TO 2010
With 5 out of 6 matches postponed in the Premier Division, Haddenham A maintain their 6 point lead over last season's champions, Sports A. Meanwhile their B Team held the Sports B team to a draw with Nick Cresswell and Chris Hawkes securing two wins each. Tim Cheek for Sports kept his team in the game with a maximum.
Division One saw three matches take place with top team Bucks CC B recording a 10 0 victory over bottom placed Rivets. Elsewhere Matt Axford of Risborough A was unbeaten at Sports E where his team won 6 4. Game of the evening was James Gibson of Sports keeping his cool to see off Mark Spragg over 4 sets. The match of the Division was between Tring B and Bucks CC D, both mid table teams. Roger Shelton for Tring was in magnificent maximum-winning form beating off the challenge of Iain and John Willcocks. Roger Hopkins and David Mosley won doubles in this hard fought 8 2 victory.
Only two matches in Div Two survived the snow. Bucks G visited Tring E and secured a 7-3 victory thanks to a maximum from Tony Greenham. With Sports F not playing Bucks regained the top spot. Tring D's visit to Brill proved a candidate for match of the season with the two aces of the lower divisions, Mark Luscombe and John Fitsell, in opposition. The crunch came in the first match of the evening with Mark swiftly showing who was boss with a 3-0 drubbing on his way to yet another maximum. John's woes continued as he lost narrowly to Bill Chapman in his second game. Bill had previously lost to Steve Donlevy and exhausted by his efforts lost also to Fred Luscombe. This topsy-turvy match finally hinged on the doubles which Tring eventually won 11-8 in the fifth leg giving them a 6-4 victory.
HADDENHAM ARE TOPS AT HALFWAY STAGE
13/12/09
Even with Sports A's 10 - 0 trouncing of Tring A, Haddenham A maintained their lead in the Premier Division at the half way stage in the season by beating Sports C 10 0. The Haddenham powerhouse of Mark Scott, Andy Misseldine and Darren Palmer brushed aside the Sports trio of David Ballard, Pete Tillotson and Nick Gourley. Haddenham and the following four teams, Sports A, Bierton, Bellingdon and Quainton A have a cushion of 20 points above sixth placed Sports B who outplayed second from bottom Ridgeway this week, winning 7 3. Nobby Tennison had one win, Roger Mason won twice and Tim Cheek gained a maximum, although he was taken to five sets by Kevin Doyle, Ridgeway's new signing. Elsewhere, Bellingdon's Keith Slipper maintained his form winning two games at Bucks CC A in support of Lee Rogerson and Stuart Brown in a 9 1 win that keeps them in third place.
Quainton strengthened their hold at the top of the First Division with a 7 3 win against Bucks CC D. Man of the match was Neil Mack with a well earned maximum including a victory over top player John Willcocks. John fought back to beat Jim Styles and Mick Simmonds over four and three sets respectively. John Roper recorded one win for Bucks. Quainton's nearest rivals for the title are Bucks CC B who managed a 7 3 win against two-man Risborough A. Jan Curtis was unbeaten for Bucks with Matt Axford winning twice for Risborough. The Bucks CC E Team are still in the chasing pack moving ahead of Haddenham C who they beat 6 4 this week. Lee Mallick was unbeaten but taken to 5 sets by David Bradbury who, like his team mate David Shapter won twice. Ken Hill won once for Bucks with Cynthia Kunschke making up Haddenham's score. Tring B and Tring C cancelled each other out in a hard fought draw, with John Richardson remaining unbeaten for the C Team.
One of the shocks of the season occurred when weakened Division Two leaders, Bucks CC G, surrendered their unbeaten record 4 - 6 at bottom of the table Sports H. Brill maintained pressure on them beating Bucks CC F 6 - 4 thanks to the usual maximum singles and doubles performance from John Fitsell. Gerry Saunders provided the main opposition. Despite a maximum from Clive Westbury Sports G could only manage a draw at Risborough B for whom recent signing Barbara Willcock won 2 games. The Luscombe family (Tring D) beat stablemates Tring F 8 - 2 despite a twosome from young Dan Nathan who did well in the recent Bucks County junior trials.

Hi Everyone,
The League Committee met recently and spent nearly an hour debating over the new season's League setup. We explored having 3 divisions like last season but were conscious of the demand to bring back the Frank Mitchell trophy competition. We looked at four divisions with the Trophy but felt only 16 league and possibly only one cup matches in a season were not what the many players who played in only one league would want. We looked at four or five divisions playing each other 3 times but the numbers did not add up. SO WE HAVE SETTLED ON THREE DIVISIONS OF TWELVE TEAMS. IT ALSO MEANS THAT THERE WILL BE A F M TROPHY COMPETITION see Frank Mitchell Trophy.
The Divisions are as below but the fixture chart is also available, see Fixtures

Haddenham Hardbats win Summer League Final
MONDAY 20 July SUMMER LEAGUE SEMI FINALS
Despite valiant efforts against overwhelming odds the Oxford duo, Bill Mason and Mike Aistrop were unable to prevent Chris Hawkes and Jon Abungan progressing to Wednesday's final. Bill managed to take a leg off Chris and Mike stuck in well to take a leg off Jon, but this was after the match was already decided. Chris and Jon will play Pete Hargreaves and Arun Jogi of Wot no S who performed well to beat Brian Whitehead and Colin Sturges, representing Iceberg. Again the result was decided after the first three games, but Iceberg managed to win the doubles. Some excellent rallies were evident in both matches from these mainly attack minded players.
In the 3 rd /4 th spot play offs Andy Templeton and John Richardson for Tring D overcame Ken Walton and David Bradbury (Ken & Rob) by 4 to 1 and Clive and Joyce beat substitute team Pete Edwards and Nobby Tennison 5 0.
FINAL 22 July
Pete Hargreaves and Arun Jogi tried their hardest with some excellent table tennis against two players in the peak of form, both with the benefit of testing handicaps. Jon Abungan saw off Pete in two legs with a start of 12 points in the first game where Pete narrowed the deficit to 7 points in the second leg. Again Yogi scored more points than Chris in the second game, but not enough, losing 31-23, 31-26, giving away 13 points at the start. Jon then maintained his one hundred per cent record beating Yogi 31-19, 31-29 with 16 points start. Yogi had levelled the scores in the second leg, but Jon kept his cool to take the game. This gave the match to Haddenham Hardbats who have been favourites throughout the tournament. In the remaining singles Chris dropped a leg against Pete before winning through and The Hardbats took the doubles to make the score 5 0. Well done Chris and Jon.
In the play off for third spot Joyce Witney and Clive Westbury beat Andy Templeton and John Richardson of Tring D, despite Joyce losing the first game to Andy Templeton. This was a gruelling match with all games going to three legs and scores in the legs being very close.
There were friendly matches played on the other tables, thanks to Ken Walton, Stan Harding, Paul O'Connell and David Badham filling in the vacant places. Scores are available on the web.
Finally many thanks to David Ballard who turned up with the trophies and made the presentation for what has been an enjoyable competition.

AGM News
7/5/09
The League's AGM took place on 7 th May at Foxhills Bowls Centre. Jim Styles, The Chairman reported on a successful season which saw Aylesbury Sports A crowned as Champions of the Premier Division for the third year running. Elmhurst took the Title in Division One with Bucks CC D topping a competitive Division Two. Whilst individually Chris Hansell of Sports A topped the Premier averages, Andrew Misseldine from Haddenham A won the Mens event at the Tournament for the second year in a row in an excellent 5 set battle with Chris. Top player in Division One was Bradley Willis (Elmhurst) with Mark Luscombe from Tring F taking the honours in Division Two.
Jim commented on the strong financial position brought about by the careful management of Treasurer, David Ballard. An increased attendance at Elmhurst has been one reason for the improvement in finances, a direct result of the energy and enthusiasm from Nick Cresswell with strong support from Nobby Tennison. The season was rounded off by an excellent tournament on 4 April at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, a venue that proved to be more adaptable and seemed to attract a larger ensemble of players.
The usual formalities were completed with the present officers remaining in place with the addition of John Richardson to the committee. One rule amendment was voted in, that being Rule 8.13 relating to postponement of scheduled matches. Part c which states that The Divisional Match Secretary can only authorise postponement of a scheduled match if there is mutual agreement of the team captains involved now has a rider attached provided this agreement is reached and notified to the Match Secretary at least 14 days prior to the scheduled fixture.
In any other business, arrangements were confirmed for the upcoming Hard Bat tournament on 5 June and the Summer League which starts on 11 May, both events at Elmhurst community Centre.
The League's President, Bob Sargeant, presented trophies as follows.
Premier Division Champions: Sports A Nick Hansell, Mike Atkinson, Chris Hansell, Dave Wackrill
Runners Up: Bierton Neil Massa, Michael Wilkins, Steve Allen, Dwayne Brooks, Alex Pratt.
Division One Champions: Elmhurst Bradley Willis, Brian McMullan, Paul Willis, Pete Hammond
Runners Up: Ridgeway Brian Redrup, Eric Dutton, Jeff Amor, Bob Croucher
Division Two Champions: Bucks CC D Martin Gillett, Steve Rycraft, Rod Payne, Andrew Willard
Runners Up: Bucks CC F Iain Willcocks, Paul O'Connell, John Roper, Paul Hartnell
Finally, Bob presented two awards under The Cyril Thorne Memorial Trophy for exceptional performances by a player and an administrator. It was unanimously agreed that the Player's award be made to Andrew Misseldine , the Mens' individual tournament winner for the last two years as well as this year's Veterans champion. The award for Administrator was presented to David Ballard for his exceptional work as Treasurer and also for being Annual Tournament Organiser each year as well as organising Riddell Trophy, Junior and Hard Bat Tournaments.

Last Report 27/4/09
TITLES DECIDED
With just one result from Division Two outstanding the Titles, promotion and relegation places are now decided in the Aylesbury and District Table Tennis League.
Sports A have long been the Champions in the Premier Division, winning by a massive 51 point margin from second placed Bierton. The chasm from top to bottom was evident in their last match with Bucks CC B which they won 10 0, with Nick Hansell, Mike Atkinson and Dave Wackrill all victorious. Well done to them and also to their top player, Chris Hansell.
Bucks CC B then played relegation compatriots, Sports C, losing a bruising encounter 8 2. This was not enough to save Sports who finished 10 points adrift of Rivets A above them. Tring A completed the relegation places in last place.
Final matches in Division One resulted in Elmhurst snatching the Title from Ridgeway, both having difficult encounters. Ridgeway lost out by 6 points after having to play the tricky Tring C twice, dropping 9 points in the process. Elmhurst dropped 5 points against third placed Sports D but, buoyed by a sparkling Bradley Willis performance, they picked up 7 points in their last match against Haddenham D. The three clubs filling the bottom spots are Bucks CC E, Rivets B and Tring E, although Bucks finished on the same number of points as Risborough B, who are better placed by virtue of winning more matches. Top player was Tring D's Mark Luscombe who dropped just one game in his last match against club compatriot, David Mosley.
Division Two concluded a long season in two dramatic days this week. On Monday Bucks CC D faced Brill hoping for a repeat of their 10-0 victory earlier in the season as they continued their battle to overhaul leaders Bucks CC F. It was not to be as John Fitsell put in a rare appearance for Brill winning his three singles. This meant that on the next night Bucks CC D were one point down when they visited their arch rivals for a final showdown. At the halfway point in a tough match Bucks D led by three games to the two of their opponents' star Iain Willcocks. Then Paul O'Connell won for the F team against Rod Payne but Martin Gillett and Steve Rycraft won for the D team to give them a 5-3 advantage. In an all or nothing final singles Iain Willcocks, third in the division averages lost out 3 straight to Rycraft which clinched the title for the D team. A win in the doubles gave Bucks CC D the result 7 -3, the title by 3 points and an unbeaten record for the season. Sports H have taken the third promotion spot 24 points ahead of their E Team.
