In Support of "Kelly's Olympic Dream"

Happy Olympic New Year - and we have an Olympic Elite Athlete right on our doorstep - National Table Tennis Champion Kelly Sibley

Kelly's dream has always been to compete and win a medal at the Olympic Games and she has worked tirelessly to achieve this since she first represented England at the 2000 English Schools table tennis competition at the age of twelve.  Due to her commitment to the sport she has now been short listed to represent Team GB table tennis squad for the 2012 games.  She was first reserve at Beijing four years ago, but is now one of the favourites to achieve selection for our home Olympics - London 2012.

Kelly was born in Leamington, is an International Table Tennis player and has been representing England at senior level since the age of 15 and is the current Ladies National Champion.  She has won various gold medals at international events as well as silver and bronze medals.  Kelly is an excellent ambassador for the sport and won both the Warwickshire Young Sportswoman of the Year and the BBC Midlands Sports Breakthrough Award in 2006.  She is also President of local Lillington Free Church Table Tennis Club (where her table tennis career began), frequently mentoring young players when Olympic training commitments allow her to attend these local table tennis tournaments.

Bucks Sport Coach Bursary

The Bucks Sport Coach Bursary was launched back at the end of July, to try and support local coaches with gaining a level 1 or 2 coaching qualification in their chosen sport. The initial response and feedback to this was extremely positive with a large number of people enquiring and looking to apply. Unfortunately however, since it's launch, the majority of these enquiries haven't yet come to fruition, so a number of bursaries are still available to award.

Please let as many people know about the bursary as possible within your contacts and networks. All of the forms can be downloaded via the website at http://www.buckssport.org/en/coaching/funding/bucks_sport_coach_bursary , but if you experience any difficulties with this, please let Ben Fisher(see below)know and he will send any of the documents through separately. Please get this out as far and wide as possible to the schools, leisure centres, sports clubs, youth clubs, colleges, university students and anybody else who might be interested. The deadline for all applications is 30 th November but they are assessing applications every two weeks to ensure a quick response when an application is submitted.

Funding Workshop for Community Sports Clubs

Date and Venue :  

•  Thursday evening (7 – 9pm), 21 st October, Chiltern District Council Offices, Amersham , HP6 5AW

Purpose :  To provide community sports clubs with practical advice and ideas on raising money for club projects.

It will help you to:

• Develop a project mindful of the national agenda for sport and the funding opportunities available
• Identify the barriers to successful funding applications and how they can be overcome
• Identify sources of funding, including grants and general fund-raising
• Identify the information required to develop a successful funding application
• Describe ways of evaluating the effectiveness of your project.

Note: Each workshop also provides follow up assistance to help complete a funding application.
