AYLESBURY & DISTRICT TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE

SPRING/SUMMER COMPETITION 2010 - RULES OF PLAY

1. The Home Team should declare its playing order first, using the scorecard circulated

2. Identify the Handicap Grades of each player. For each game deduct the lower Grade from the higher; the start to be allotted can then be determined from the Difference Chart opposite.

3. In the case of doubles the figures for each team should be added together and the difference divided by two (ignoring any halves) before the Difference Chart is applied.

4. Each player should score one singles game. Unless a non-participant volunteers it will be necessary for the players competing in the doubles game to score themselves - a home player should score the first leg and until ends change in any third leg that may prove necessary

5. Choice of serve/ends should be determined in the normal way. The first player to serve should only serve for as many points are necessary to make the combined scores divisible by five. Thus a player receiving 12 points would serve for 3 points only, as 12 + 3 = 15.

6. Unless neither player receives a start, when they will be played to 21 points as in normal League play, legs will be won by the first player to reach 31 points (no deuces), except that a leg will finish at 26 points or earlier if within that time a higher graded player, having given a start of 10 points or more, passes their opponents score. Any game where the handicap difference is less than 10, or where the lower graded player is still in front when they reach 26 points MUST continue until one or other player scores 31 points.

7. Games will be won by the first player/pair to win two legs. If a third leg is necessary ends should be changed when the scratch player/pair reaches 15.

8. The expedite rule shall be applied in the case of any leg lasting over 15 minutes and to any subsequent legs in that game.

9. Home Teams are expected to supply a match ball.

10. Reserves : players in one group may play as a reserve for a Team in the other group, but for a maximum of 3 matches only. Only players who have played more than 2 matches in their qualifying group may play in the semi-final and final stages. Any reserves that play and are not registered with any team in either group should pay a playing fee of £2 to Aylesbury and District Table Tennis League.

11. Final group positions will be determined by total games won. In the event of a tie there will be a countback based on the number of legs won.
