THRILLING MATCH AT QUAINTON 5/2/12 Sports C and D top Division One on equal points following the C Team's 7 – 3 win against Haddenham D and the prolific 9 – 1 defeat that the D Team inflicted on Quainton B. Iain Willcocks, Paul O'Connell and Brian McMullan were all on their game and what was considered to be a close match between second and third turned into a rout. Brian beat Jim Styles and Paul Reynolds 11 – 9 in the fifth set; Paul won all his games comfortably with Iain only losing to the ever consistent Jim. The C Team by contrast looked to have a tough evening going 2 – 0 down, but then Nick Gourley, Pete Edwards and David Badham tightened up their play each winning twice. The Sports teams have a 9 point gap between them and Quainton. Ridgeway B lost the chance to close the gap from mid table when they drew with a spirited Bierton B. Graham Butcher showed a return to form inflicting a rare defeat on Jeff Amor, previously top of the averages but now replaced by Mark Luscombe from Tring. Graham won twice with Bob Sargeant proving he still has it by winning twice. Jan Crompton supported Jeff's double with two wins. Competition is tough throughout this division. James Mott celebrated a maximum winning a fine game against Mark Luscombe in Haddenham C's 7 – 3 win against Tring D. Rose Luscombe managed to beat Roger Mott and Cynthia showed continued improved form with two wins for Haddenham. Tring C suffered at the hands of Sports E's Roger Mason. His trickery was too much for them and it inspired Nick Cresswell and Tim Sallis to their best performances this season. Sports won 8 – 2 and this win brings them away from the relegation zone. STILL CLOSE AT THE TOP 22/1/12 Sports C continue to lead Division One following a 6 – 4 win at Haddenham C. While Cynthia Kunschke had a sparkling maximum for Haddenham, Nick Gourley, Malcolm Burr and Nobby Tennison kept a steady hand to steer their team to victory. Second placed Sports D were made to work hard for their draw against bottom team, Tring C. Iain Willcocks came back to form with a timely maximum for Sports but Roger Shelton prevented Paul O'Connell from also winning all three. Five of the games went to 5 sets, two of which came from the unlucky Lianne Fisher, losing one of them 9 – 11 to Gordon Whitehead in the fifth set. Sports D trail their C team by two points only with Quainton B one point further behind. Quainton gained precious ground winning at Ridgeway B, 7 – 3. Jim Styles and Paul Reynolds recorded maximums with Neil Mack taking an important point against an equally strong opposition in Brian Redrup, Graham Gittins and Eric Dutton. Tring D celebrated a win against Bierton B with Rose Luscombe winning twice in support of her unbeaten Dad, Mark. Bill Chapman took the other point for Tring. The Dark Horse for the Division One Title, Haddenham D, managed a 7 – 3 win at Sports E with Mark Penn unbeaten. Simon Witney came unstuck against Clive Westbury 12 – 10 in the fifth and Nick Cresswell stopped John Cripps from gaining a maximum. Haddenham D are 21 points behind the leaders but with 2 matches in hand. PERM ANY ONE FROM 6 16/1/12 Top team at present in Division One is Sports C who lead by two points from Sports D with Quainton B a further two points behind. Ridgeway B are fourth nine points adrift but with two matches in hand. Last week they overhauled Tring C 8 – 2 but Roger Shelton for Tring had a sparkling match beating both Jeff Amor and Brian Redrup, denting Jeff's 100% record in the process. Ridgeway's two matches in hand are against Haddenham D who also have a Title chance. Sports D can verify this when they could only draw there. Brian McMullan won twice for Sports but Kevin Giles and Mark Penn also had two wins in a closely contested encounter. Elsewhere Malcolm Burr had a fine maximum for Sports C in the 6 – 4 win against Sports E. James Mott had success with two wins to support Lee Mallick's maximum in Haddenham C's 7 – 3 win at Bierton B. Mark Luscombe kept up his fine individual performance with a maximum in Tring D's loss 6 – 4 to Quainton B. Of note here is the good doubles results that Mark and Dad, Fred, are achieving. WHO WILL PREVAIL? 11/1/12 Division One continues to be ultra competitive. Sports C lead the way by one point following their 8 – 2 defeat of Bierton B, for whom Graham Butcher and Pallav Roy took important points. Second placed Sports D took a 7 – 3 win against two man Sports E where Paul O'Connell was unbeaten for the D Team, taking a fine win against the previously unbeaten Roger Mason. Quainton B in third place lost a little ground losing 7 – 3 to Haddenham C. Unbeaten Cynthia Kunschke had a sparkling match for Haddenham including a win against Paul Reynolds. At the lower end of the Division Tring D maintained their position courtesy of a maximum from Mark Luscombe, but bottom team, Tring C, gained 6 valuable points in their local derby win. David Mosley, Roger Hopkins and Roger Shelton each had doubles for the C Team. STILL NO CLEAR FAVOURITE FOR TITLE 11/12/11 Division One is proving a right ding dong affair this season. Quainton A, Sports C and Sports D are tied in top spot on 59 points but Ridgeway B are 7 points behind with a game in hand. Haddenham D are also in the hunt on 46 points also with a game in hand. In last week's fixtures Ridgeway kept up the pressure with a 9 – 1 win against Sports E despite Tim Sallis' best efforts. Tim beat Bob Croucher in 4 sets, lost to Jeff Amor 11 – 9 in the fifth set and extended Brian Redrup to 22 – 20 in a three set loss. Sports D won a derby match with Sports C who have led the division all season. Brian McMullan was unbeaten for the D Team with Paul O'Connell returning to form with 2 wins. Surprisingly their top player, Iain Willcocks, managed only one win, but lost to Nick Gourley and Malcolm Burr in five sets. Quainton pulled up level with the Sports teams courtesy of a 9 – 1 win at Bierton B. Bob Sargeant was Bierton's sole success, with a prestigious defeat of Paul Reynolds. Mick Simmonds supported captain, Jim Styles, with a full house of wins, despite being extended to 12 – 10 in the fifth set by Graham Butcher. Mark Luscombe recorded another fine maximum against Haddenham D where Mark Penn made him work hard before losing 11 – 9 in the fifth set. Rose Luscombe worked tirelessly to take legs off John Cripps and Simon Witney but without further success and Mark and Fred Luscombe nearly had another doubles win, losing 11 – 9 in the fifth set to Mark Penn and John Cripps. In the remaining fixture Lee Mallick and James Mott were stars against Tring C with Cynthia Kunschke winning twice in their 9 – 1 win. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS 3/12/11 The top of Division One continues to be a close affair. Sports C increased their lead to 4 points with a 6 – 4 win at Quainton despite Paul Reynolds' maximum. Nick Gourley and Malcolm Burr each won twice and edged out Quainton in a close doubles. This keeps Quainton in third place behind Sports D who drew with fourth placed Ridgeway B. Brian McMullan starred in this match for Sports with a fine maximum and joined up with Paul O'Connell to win a close five set doubles. Sports E are showing better form winning 6 – 4 against Tring D for whom Mark Luscombe was again unbeaten. Clive Westbury, Nick Cresswell and Bill McCafferty all won twice, but Mark teamed up with Dad, Fred, to win the doubles for Tring in three sets. Elsewhere Haddenham C had a good 6 – 4 win against their colleagues, Haddenham D, with the unbeaten Lee Mallick showing a return to form. Bierton B took on Tring C in a battle of the bottom two teams and won in fine style, 7 – 3. Mark Binder was unbeaten for Bierton with Jock Campbell supporting well with two good wins. Together they won the doubles 3 – 1. STILL ONE FROM FIVE CAN WIN IT 27/11/11 Division One continues to be a highly competitive affair. Four points cover the top three with Ridgeway B a further 8 points behind with a game in hand. Leaders Sports C were held to a draw by Ridgeway for whom the unbeaten Jeff Amor starred. An entertaining evening's table tennis saw Sports duo, David Badham and Malcolm Burr claw their way to a draw 14 - 12 in the fifth set of the doubles. Second placed Sports D pulled a point back winning 6 – 4 at Tring D, but allowed Fred and Mark Luscombe to steal an important point for Tring in the doubles. Quainton B trounced Tring C 9 – 1 with Jim Styles and Paul Reynolds victorious. This puts them in third place 4 points behind the leaders. Bierton B, one point above bottom team, Tring C, would have capitulated against Haddenham D had it not been for the redoubtable Bob Sergeant, playing a rare match. He overcame Simon Witney and John Cripps and took a leg off the unbeaten Mark Penn. Bierton lost 7 – 3. Sports E have crept up the table with the return of Roger Mason. He won all three against Bierton but was not required in the draw at Haddenham C. Nick Cresswell won twice with Clive Westbury and reserve, Barry Green, winning once. Lee Mallick was unbeaten for Haddenham, but suffered a rare doubles defeat with Cynthia against Nick and Clive. SPORTS D AND HADDENHAM C BATTLE OUT A DRAW 20/11/11 Sports C opened up a four point lead ahead of Sports D when they won 8 – 2 at Tring C for whom David Mosley won once and took the doubles with Roger Hopkins. The Sports C team now have to face the three teams below them in the weeks running up to Christmas. The Sports D team lost valuable ground with a draw at home to Haddenham C. Cynthia Kunschke inflicted the first loss for Iain Willcocks with her attack and counter hitting. She won twice as did her colleague, Lee Mallick. Together they took the doubles. Cynthia was prevented from her maximum when the in-form Lianne Fisher won in three sets. Lianne also won in three sets against James Mott, but couldn't handle Lee's consistency. Ridgeway B's threesome, Brian Redrup, Jan Crompton and Eric Dutton all had doubles against Tring D for whom Mark Luscombe starred in their 7 – 3 loss. The other teams in the mix for the title, Quainton B and Haddenham D met last week with Quainton taking a 6 – 4 win. Paul Reynolds was unbeaten for Quainton with Jim Styles winning twice. However four of the games went to 5 sets with John Cripps pushing Jim to 11 – 9 in the fifth set and losing, also in 5 sets, to Paul. Mark Penn also took Paul to 5 sets, but managed to take two good wins for Haddenham. SPORTS TEAMS LEAD BUT LOOK BEHIND! 16/11/11 Division One continues to be highly competitive. Leaders Sports C overcame Tring D 8 – 2 with Malcolm Burr showing good form. Mark Luscombe took Tring's points with Nobby Tennison and Nick Gourley also winning twice. Hot on The heels of Sports C is their D Team who inflicted an 8 – 2 defeat at Bierton B. Iain Willcocks maintained his unbeaten form and Brian McMullan supported with a maximum. However, Ridgeway B, Quainton B and the two Haddenham Teams will have a say in who wins the title this season. Haddenham D are the dark horses winning 8 – 2 at Tring C with Kevin Giles unbeaten. Mark Penn, John Cripps and Simon Witney provide strength in depth for any opposition. Star of the Haddenham C match against Ridgeway B was Jeff Amor with a maximum, supported by doubles from Jan Crompton and Bob Croucher. Cynthia Kunschke won Haddenham's points and took Jeff to 5 sets as did James and Roger Mott who lost 12 -1 4 in the fifth set. The match was, therefore, much closer than the result implies. Quainton B kept themselves in the hunt courtesy of three wins from Jim Styles in the 6 – 4 win against Sports E. However, Clive Westbury could have pulled off a draw for his team if he had managed to win the fifth set against Jim. Clive lost 13 – 11 but took strong wins against Mick Simmonds and Neil Mack. O'CONNELL DOMINATES 1/11/11 Division One continues to be a competitive affair with Sports C leading their sister team, Sports D, by one point. The D team achieved a 7 – 3 win at Quainton B with Paul O'Connell taking a brilliant maximum, denying Paul Reynolds a maximum in the process. Brian McMullan won twice with Lianne Fisher taking one win. Sports C won 6 – 4 at Haddenham D with Nick Gourley unbeaten, Nobby Tennison winning twice and Pete Edwards once. Mark Penn had two wins for Haddenham, with Simon Witney winning once. Both the Haddenham teams will figure in the fight for top place along with Ridgeway B who beat Bierton B 7 – 3. Jan Crompton and Jeff Amor were unbeaten for Ridgeway. Tring D will also have a say in the proceedings, with Mark Luscombe unbeaten in the draw with Haddenham C. Lee Mallick and James Mott won twice for Haddenham with Rose Luscombe winning well against Roger Mott. Fred Luscombe and Roger fought a furious match with Roger coming out on top 11 – 7 in the fifth set. In the bottom of the table battle, Sports E beat a two handed Tring C 6 – 4. Nick Cresswell was unbeaten for Sports and Tim Sallis won once on his first appearance this season. WELL DONE ROSE 23/10/11 Sports C lead Division One by 1 point from Quainton B, following their 6 - 4 win against Haddenham C who occupy 4th place at present. David Badham won three with Malcolm Burr winning twice and Pete Edwards winning once. Lee Mallick, Cynthia Kunschke and James Mott each won once for Haddenham.Ridgeway B came undone in the visit to Quainton where Jim Styles and Paul Reynolds had maximum wins in the 8 – 2 victory. Sports D won at Tring C to take third place with Iain Willcocks unbeaten. Jock Campbell for Bierton B ruined Mark Luscombe's 100% record winning 11 – 9 in the fifth set. This was a good night for Bierton beating Tring D 7 – 3 and taking their team off the bottom of the Division, but it heralds the arrival of Rose Luscombe who defeated Jock. She brings a much needed youthful exuberance to Division One. Sports E hold up the Division at present but could have helped themselves more if their third player had turned out against Haddenham D. As it was Bill McCafferty, 1 win,and Nick Cresswell, 2 wins, managed three points with Mark Penn the unbeaten Haddenham player. STIRRING STUFF AHEAD 14/10/11 Division One is promising to be a very competitive field right through the Division. Sports C lead the way with two wins but, this is no guide with most teams capable of upsetting their opponents. Leading performances have been seen from Iain Willcocks and Lianne Fisher of Sports D, Mark Luscombe for Tring D, Lee Mallick from Haddenham C and Brian Redrup and Jeff Amor from Ridgeway. Quainton B could be the dark horses with Jim Styles commanding a team bolstered by the recruitment of Paul Reynolds. Game of the week was a scintillating attacking battle between old mates, Pete Edwards and Nick Cresswell, Pete winning 19 – 17 in the fourth set. TRING A ARE CHAMPIONS 17/4/11 What could have been a crucial match for the Division One Title between Ridgeway and Tring A became of little concern with the results from the last two weeks. The postponed fixture was played on 4 April by which time Tring's last two 9 - 1 wins had secured the title. Both these teams had moved away from the rest of the pack and will hope to enjoy Premier Division Table Tennis next season. Ridgeway won this match 7 - 3 with end of season strong form shown by Brian Redrup. A fine maximum from him was supported by a double from Kevin Doyle, who nonetheless saw Graham Smith dent his 100% record. Kevin still retained top spot in the averages. Brian tied on second spot with Iain Willcocks (Bucks CC C) on 85%. Nick Tyler from Bucks CC B was fourth on 84%. A very competitive season in Division One saw Sports D claiming bottom place with Bucks CC D just above them. TWO MEN TEAMS NOT ENOUGH 14/3/11 Division One leaders Tring A had an easy passage against two man Bucks CC B with Graham Smith and Les Ferguy unbeaten. Colin Tibbles made a rare appearance for Bucks taking one win. Second placed Ridgeway had a similar situation against two man Bucks CC C where Iain Willcocks won twice for Bucks. Whilst he gained revenge for an earlier defeat by Jeff Amor, he lost out in 4 sets, two going to deuce, against an on form Brian Redrup. Ridgeway won 7 – 3 to stay second three points behind Tring. Elsewhere, Cynthia Kunschke had a strong maximum along with Lee Mallick's double to claim a 6 – 4 win against Bucks CC D. Some close games were in evidence here with 4 games going to 5 sets, the closest being Cynthia's 15 - 13 win in the fifth set against David Shapter, who had a double including a fine win against Lee. David Bradbury also extended Lee to 5 sets but failed to capitalise on a good lead in the fifth, losing 13 – 11. SPORTS WIN BATTLE FOR BOTTOM 27/2/11 With two matches postponed in Division One, the main focus was the battle for bottom place between Sports D and Bucks CC D. This was won by Sports who lost 8 – 2 and remain 10 points off the pace. For Bucks Paul Rickard won a maximum with Steve Rycraft and David Bradbury both winning twice. Tim Sallis and Lianne Fisher each won once for Sports. Elsewhere Nick Tyler took a fine maximum for Bucks CC B in their 6 – 4 victory against Haddenham C. Lee Mallick and Cynthia Kunschke won doubles for Haddenham with Jan Crompton and Mark Binder recording single wins. DAVE TAKES THE BALL HOME FOR BUCKS D 19/2/11 Tring A keep top spot in Division One with an emphatic 8 – 2 victory over Quainton B despite Jim Styles who beat Graham Smith and Colin Sturges. Les Ferguy won three for Tring. Elsewhere Sports D tried to move off the bottom rung but only succeeded in keeping the gap between them and Bucks CC D to 4 points. Tim Sallis won twice for Sports and single wins from Pete Edwards and Lianne Fisher helped them take 4 points off top team Bucks CC B. Nick Tyler starred for Bucks with graham Butcher winning twice. Bucks CC D, however, kept ahead of Sports, courtesy of a stirring performance from David Bradbury. Losing 6 – 1 to Haddenham D at one stage, they came back to lose 6 – 4 with David winning two singles and then, having done the hatrick by winning the doubles with Steve Rycraft, he took the match ball home. John Cripps, Mark Bevan and Mark Penn all recorded doubles for Haddenham D RIDGEWAY FALTER 12/2/11 In Tring's free week, Ridgeway failed to take advantage against bottom team, Sports D, who took a fine draw. Lianne Fisher continued her fine form for Sports beating Bob Croucher and Eric Dutton. Meanwhile Brian Redrup missed a maximum losing 13 - 11 in the fifth set to Pete Edwards who found some form to win a double. Bucks CC C duo Paul O'Connell and Iain Willcocks continued their unbeaten trend with maximums at Haddenham D to take them up to third place. Two man Quainton B found Lee Mallick in form for Haddenham C losing 6 - 4. Bucks CC D lost some ground in the relegation stakes although Steve Rycraft continued good recent form winning two in the loss to Bucks CC B. Nick Tyler won three for the B Team, with Jan crompton taking a double. TRING REGAIN TOP SPOT 7/2/11 Tring's match with Bucks CC C has put them back on top leading Ridgeway by 6 points. The evening was notable for two fine wins for Paul O'Connell against Les Ferguy and Graham Smith. However, Paul came undone against Colin Sturges, whereas Iain Willcocks gained a smooth victory over Colin but suffured defeats against Les (5 sets) and Graham (4 sets). Mum, Pat pushed Colin close but couldn't get the breaks to take a leg. Ridgeway and Tring look good for promotion, just who will be champions is likely to go to the end of the season. RIDGEWAY MOVE TOP 5/2/11 Tring A were overtaken this week by Ridgeway who won at Bucks CC D 8 – 2, at least until their latest result is known. Kevin Doyle won three on his second league match, but David Bradbury pushed him all the way, taking one leg. Paul Rickard dented Brian Redrup's record with a win in 4 sets and Steve Rycraft supported with a strong performance beating Jeff Amor. Quainton B lie in third place after their 6 – 4 win at Sports D. Neil Mack, Mick Simmonds and Paul Unwin were a strong team on the night but not strong enough to beat the fast emerging Lianne Fisher. She showed each of the Quainton players how much she has improved since her promotion to Division One. Elsewhere Bucks CC D were savaged by Haddenham D 8 – 2, with Mark Penn unbeaten. Jan Crompton won two for Bucks and fought a hard 5 set game with Mark. John Cripps and Mark Bevan won doubles for Haddenham to move them away from the relegation places. TRING AND RIDGEWAY ARE PROMOTION CANDIDATES 22/1/11 Both Tring and Ridgeway recorded 8 - 2 victories this week against Haddenham D and Bucks CC B respectively. Colin Sturges and Les Ferguy took maximums for Tring with John Richardson winning twice, only losing to Mark Penn. Kevin Doyle was unstoppable for Ridgeway, well supported by Jeff Amor and Brian Redrup with two wins in a close match despite the scoreline. Nick Tyler won twice for Bucks with Graham Butcher taking Jeff and Brian to 5 sets. Elsewhere Two man Bucks CC C beat Haddenham C 6 - 4 with Iain Willcocks and Paul O'Connell both taking maximums again, only losing the doubles to Lee Mallick and Cynthia Kunschke. TRING IN BOX SEAT 14/1/11 Tring A edged further ahead of Ridgeway in the battle for top spot following their 9 - 1 win at Haddenham C. John Richardson starred along with Les Ferguy with maximums for Tring although Lee Mallick dented Graham Smith's averages with a well taken win in 4 sets. Ridgeway took a fine 8 - 2 win at Haddenham D although Mark Penn and John Cripps both beat Bob Croucher for Haddenham's points. Brian Redrup and Jeff Amor starred for Ridgeway. Nick Tyler returned to winning ways with a maximum in the draw between Bucks B and Quainton B which has effectively left them both further behind the leaders. Graham Butcher won a leg for Bucks with Mick Simmonds and Neil Mack taking doubles for Quainton. Sports D are struggling in bottom place after their 7 - 3 loss at home to Bucks CC C. Iain Willcocks and Paul O'Connell won maximums and both are riding high in the averages. Anna Wharrier, playing up couldn't add to their success despite taking Jock Campbell to 5 sets. Lianne Fisher and Pete Edwards were Sports other successes with Pete unfortunate not to overcome Iain, losing 11 - 8 in the fifth set. BUCKS B PEGGED BACK 7/1/11 Iain Willcocks and Paul O'Connell were in scintillating form for Bucks CC C in the rearranged match with Bucks CC B, both taking maximums and together the doubles in a storming 7 - 3 win. Rob Perry stepped up from Div 2 to help them out and managed to take a leg off Mark Binder. The three points enable the B Team to claim third spot but no wleaves them a little off the pace set by Tring A and Ridgeway. TRING STEAL A MARCH 22/12/10 The missing Ridgeway result went 7 - 3 in their favour against Quainton B, leaving them 6 points behind Tring A. Jeff Amor was strong for Ridgeway with a maximum which lifted him to third in the averages on 85.71% equal with Iain Willcocks, but Mick Simmonds fought hard for Quainton with two wins against Eric Dutton and Bob Croucher and two lost legs against Jeff on 15 - 13. He teamed up with Jim Styles to win the doubles 11 - 9 in the fifth set. The strong promotion candidates at the halfway stage remain as Tring A, Quainton B, Ridgeway and Bucks CC B. 19/12/10 With the result of the key battle between Quainton and Ridgeway still to come, Tring A slid effortlessly into a 13 point lead in Division One. Les Ferguy and, top of the averages Graham Smith, had maximums against Sports D with Colin Sturges winning twice. Tim Sallis managed one win for bottom team, Sports and Bill McCafferty made Graham Smith work hard before losing 6 -11 in the fifth set. Elsewhere, Lee Mallick continued his good form winning all his games against Haddenham D, but his team, Haddenham C, could only draw for the fifth time this season. Mark Penn and John Cripps completed doubles for the D Team. Paul O'Connell had a timely return to form winning three games for Bucks CC C in their 6 – 4 defeat of their D Team. Paul Rickard won twice for the D Team inflicting a rare defeat on Iain Willcocks who also won twice. TRING TAKE CHARGE 5/12/10 Tring A carried out their threat to contest the Division One Title, moving into top spot with a 9 – 1 win against Bucks CC D. They lead by 4 points from Ridgeway with Bucks CC B only one point further behind. For Bucks D Steve Rycraft took the prized scalp of Colin Sturgess but David Shapter was unlucky not to score, losing 13 – 11 to Graham Smith and 11 – 8 to Colin in the fifth set. Haddenham C managed their first win, 6 – 4 against Sports D, with Lee Mallick returning to form. Lianne Fisher continues to impress for Sports beating Cynthia Kunschke, 13 – 11 in the fifth set, and Roger Mott in three straight sets. Quainton B also managed a 10 – 0 win against Haddenham D which will put them in fourth place one point behind Bucks B. No details of the win are yet known, card yet to be received. Card now received for Quainton B/Haddenham D match which involved 5 five leg games. Neil Mack squeezed past John Cripps 14 - 12 in the fifth and Mick Simmonds also took 5 legs against John, winning the third 18 - 16. What looks like a one sided match at first glance turned out to be very competitive with Haddenham unfortunate not to take something from the fixture. Jim Styles was Quainton's third player with Mark Bevan and Martin Taylor making up Haddenham's team. THREE WAY CHASE 29/11/10 The chase for the Division One Title is a three way competition at present with Bucks CC B, Ridgeway and Tring A all in the hunt. This week Tring restricted Bucks CC B to 4 points in a super evening of table tennis (their words). Les Ferguy with a maximum was on fire and the opening game with Nick Tyler set the scene for the evening. Les won in three sets, but each was decided at deuce, 13-15,13-15,11-13. Nick Tyler defeated Graham Smith in 5 sets, 11-9 in the fifth and Graham managed 4 set wins against Graham Butcher and Jan Crompton. Meanwhile leaders Ridgeway took 6 points against Bucks CC C, Jeff Amor winning three games, including a close 5 set defeat of Iain Willcocks, 11- 9 in the fifth set. Haddenham C are the draw specialists in this division, this time against Bucks CC D, Cynthia Kunschke again being their strength with 3 wins. Roger Mott found some form with a 5 set victory against David Shapter, but nearly caused a sensation by making Paul Rickard and Steve Rycraft go to 5 sets to beat him. Cynthia and Roger combined to great effect winning the doubles in 5 sets, last set 11-9. Elsewhere, bottom team Sports D lost further ground when losing 8 – 2 to Haddenham D, for whom Martin Taylor and Mark Penn were unbeaten. Pete Edwards and Tim Sallis took single wins at the expense of Simon Witney. TRING WAIT 21/11/10 Bucks CC B were held to a draw in a fierce battle at Haddenham C but stay 4 points ahead of Ridgeway who have a game in hand. Haddenham had held Ridgeway to a draw the previous week where Lee Mallick was unbeaten. Against Bucks, Cynthia Kunschke won three games, but Lee managed only one. If both players could fire on the night Haddenham would be up contesting the lead instead of languishing in sixth place 17 points off the pace. Whilst Ridgeway and Bucks CC B look favourites for the title, Quainton B are also close, having drawn away to Bucks CC C where Iain Willcocks was unbeaten. However, if Tring A could get their act together they could well upset the leaders. They are fifth, 13 points behind the leaders but with two games in hand. Graham Smith was unbeaten in their defeat of Quainton B. In the fight to avoid bottom spot Bucks CC D moved off and dumped Sports D on to the bottom rung with a 7 – 3 win. David Shapter starred for Bucks, but young Lianne Fisher kept her Sports team in with a chance by gaining two prestigious wins against David Bradbury and Paul Rickard and frightened David Shapter, losing 9 – 11 in the fifth set. RIDGEWAY STEAL A MARCH 3/11/10 With Tring A having no match, Ridgeway took advantage to move into top spot with an 8 – 2 win at Sports D. Brian Redrup and Jeff Amor were unbeaten for Ridgeway with Lianne Fisher taking a prestigious win for Sports against Eric Dutton and then joining up with Pete Edwards to win a fine doubles. Ridgeway are now 10 points ahead of Tring who lie in fifth place with Bucks CC B and C and Quainton B squashed between them. Quainton lost ground when Haddenham C held them to a draw, Jim Styles taking a maximum for Quainton, and Bucks CC C also lost ground when Haddenham D stole a 6 – 4 win, despite Iain Willcocks taking three games for Bucks. Simon Witney, Mark Bevan and Martin Taylor were resolute with two wins each. However, Bucks CC B gained valuable ground to move into second place beating their sister team, Bucks CC D, 8 – 2. Nick Tyler and Jan Crompton were unbeaten with David Bradbury winning once for Bucks D. 26/10/10 Division One is ultra competitive with Tring A and Ridgeway from last season's Premier Division finding Bucks CC B and C teams and Quainton B ready to engage battle for top spot. Ridgeway currently lead the way but any of these teams could take the title this time. Candidates for relegation could come from any of the remaining 4 teams; such is the strength of this division. Bucks CC D occupy bottom place but have a game in hand after losing 8 – 2 to Ridgeway but losing 3 of the games in close 5 set encounters.
